Quick as Cricket retold by Room 4
In Room 4 we have been looking at similes. We used a book called Quick as Cricket by Audrey Wood.
The children had to think what animal they were like and how they acted or behaved as that animal.
Then they drew a picture to show where we might find their animal. Then they had to draw their animal.
After they did that we used the app Explain Everything, to take photos of the backgrounds, animals and themselves and then we created a picture of them with their animal. The children then recorded what they wrote.

Finally more swimming photos
I have the pleasure of watching your lovely children getting more confident swimming
Some of the children didn't like to put their heads under the water last week but now they are and starting to swim with a board. Others are learning how to rescue people when they are in trouble.

Swimming Update
Just a reminder to Parents and Caregivers
Please send your child's togs and towel in a named bag to school. No togs should be worn under your child's clothes as we don't swim till after lunch.
No soap or shampoo are to be sent to swimming as we are on a very tight time frame and the children have just enough time to dry themselves and get dressed before we head back to school.
Any questions please email me on
estherk@rangikura.school.nz
Thanks Whaea Esther

Star of the week
Welcome to term 2 What an awesome week we have had in room 4. The children have been so switched on and wanting to learn. It's like they haven't been on holiday. Our dojo champ and star of the week is the same person. It was had to pick someone for star of the week. If I could I would've put all of the class forward. So drum roll please....

Life Education Classroom visit today
Today we had our visit to the Life Education Classroom. We are looking at our feelings and being friends.
Fantastic start to the year
Here is a small sample of some of the work we have been doing in Room 4 this week. The children are settling well back into school routines.
Today we talked about dipping into our feeling buckets. The children were informed that we have special buckets inside us called feeling bucket. This bucket is filled with lots of love and happiness, but sometimes people dip into our bucket and take some of our love and happiness away and this is what we call sad, unhappy, angry.
The children also learnt a superhero song. Have look at your darlings singing the song.
Here they are reaching up to the stars. Very proud of Room 4 today they had great manners and listen to their teacher Kapa in the Life Education Classroom. Room 4 you rock!!!! Whaea Esther is doing a hula in the class.

Welcome to Room 4 2015 Letter to Parents
Dear Parents, Caregivers & Family,
Welcome to Room 4 2015. I hope that you all have had an awesome break over Christmas.
We are slowly getting into the swing of being back at school. Children and I are all working hard at getting know each other.
Stationary
Could I please ask for those families who have not bought stationery yet, if its possible that I have the packs by this Friday (5th February), so that next week we can all start together in our new books.
Hot Weather
Our class gets very hot quickly, therefore the children are allowed to have drink bottles in class. These need to be named and are allow to go home every night. The children are then able to get a drink anytime without having to leave the class.
After School
If your child is being picked up by older brothers or sisters and they have a special meeting place could you please let me know so that I can remind your child of where to go after school. Thanks.
If you wish to make contact with me about any issues please feel free to contact me via email. My email address is:
estherk@rangikura.school.nz
kind regards
